Grand Lodge of Mississippi F.&A.M. 195th Birthday Celebration

Brethren,

Since 2010, annually on July 27th the Mississippi Lodge of Research DCXL has gathered in celebration of the birthday of the Grand Lodge of Mississippi, F. & A.M. The observance festivities have included celebrating Freemasons past and present, ceremonies and the traditional cutting of the cake, with the oldest Freemason in attendance eating first. However, as the Grand Lodge approaches its 195th birthday this year, the Lodge of Research has added yet another dynamic to the evening.

On July 27, 1818, 20 delegates from the three Territorial Lodges (Harmony No. 33 in Natchez, Andrew Jackson No. 15 in Natchez and Washington No. 3 in Port Gibson) gathered together in Convention at Natchez to organize a Grand Lodge for the newly established State of Mississippi. The Convention lasted two days in which the Grand Lodge was formed, organized and officers installed. The content of that Convention was not thoroughly documented and little is known about the deliberations of those 20 delegates. Until now....

For the first time ever, the Mississippi Lodge of Research, in collaboration with the Grand Lodges of Kentucky and Tennessee have reconstructed the likely events of that Convention and will present to those Freemasons in attendance at the 2012 Birthday Celebration on July 27, 2012 a historical re-enactment of the Convention. This effort by the Research Lodge is yet another contribution to preserving the history of the Grand Lodge and to date is the first Masonic Living History event centered entirely on Mississippi ever held.

The 195th Birthday Celebration will be held on July 27, 2012 at the Hall of the Masonic York Rite of Jackson in Byram, Mississippi, beginning at 6:30 PM. A catered banquet will be held and afterwards, the reenactment will commence. This is NOT an open event and only Master Masons in good standing are eligible to attend. Seating will be extremely limited (75 tickets only) and tickets are REQUIRED for admission. Tickets may be purchased for $30.00 each on a first-come first-serve basis and all proceeds will benefit the construction of the Lodge's Archives.
