"Ten Master Masons"
Ten Master Masons
TEN MASTER MASONS
Author Unknown
Ten Master Masons, happy, doing fine;
One listened to a rumor, then there were nine.Nine Master Masons, faithful, never late;
One didn’t like the “Master,” then there were eight.
Eight Master Masons, on their way to heaven;
One joined too many clubs, then there were seven.
Seven Master Masons, life dealt some hard licks;
One grew discouraged, then there were six.
Six Master Masons, all very much alive;
One lost his interest, then there were five.
Five Master Masons, wishing there were more;
Got into a great dispute, then there were four.
Four Master Masons, busy as could be;
One didn’t like the programs, then there were three.
Three Master Masons, was one of them you?
One grew tired of all the work, then there were two.
Two Master Masons with so much to be done;
One said “What’s the use,” then there was one.
One Master Mason, found a brother — true!
Brought him to the Lodge, then there were two.
Two Master Masons didn’t find work a bore;
Each brought another, then there were four.
Four Master Masons saved their Lodges fate;
By showing others kindness, then there were eight.
Eight Master Masons, loving their Lodges bright sheen;
Talked so much about it, they soon counted sixteen.
Sixteen Master Masons, to their obligations true;
Were pleased when their number went to thirty-two.
So we can’t put our troubles at the Lodges door;
It’s our fault for harming the Lodge we adore.
Don’t fuss about the programs or the “Master” in the East;
Keep your obligation by serving even the very least.

"Old Master’s wages" - A Masonic Story
Old Master’s Wages
Old Master’s wages- A Masonic Story
May God Bless America
“The Old Masters Wages”
I met a dear old man today,
Who wore a Masonic pin,
It was old and faded like the man,
It’s edges were worn quite thin.
I approached the park bench where he sat,
To give the old brother his due,
I said, “I see you’ve traveled east,”
He said, “I have, have you.”
I said, “I have, and in my day
Before the all seeing sun,
I played in the rubble, with Jubala
Jubalo and Jubalum.”
He shouted, “don’t laugh at the work my son,
It’s good and sweet and true,
And if you’ve traveled as you said,
You should give these things their due.”
The word, the sign the token,
The sweet Masonic prayer,
The vow that all have taken,
Who’ve climbed the inner stair
The wages of a Mason,
are never paid in gold,
but the gain comes from contentment,
when you’re weak and growing old.
You see, I’ve carried my obligations,
For almost fifty years,
It has helped me through the hardships
and the failures full of tears.
Now I’m losing my mind and body,
Death is near but I don’t despair,
I’ve lived my life upon the level,
And I’m dying upon the square.
Sometimes the greatest lessons
Are those that are learned anew,
And the old man in the park today
has changed my point of view.
To all Masonic brothers,
The only secret is to care,
May you live your life upon the level,
May you part upon the square.

It's great to be a Freemason...
It's Great To Be A Freemason
By Danny Thomas, 33*
(From the October 1990 Fresno Scottish Rite Bulletin with credit to Kansas Masonic Bulletin)
The years found me an admirer of the great work the Masonic Order has been doing in making this world a better place for all of us to live. I have, for a long time, desired to be one of you and rejoice that now I can proudly boast of my membership in one of the world's greatest fraternal associations. I am grateful for those individuals who have in quiet ways motivated me in my work on behalf of unfortunate children. I am grateful for the high moment in my life when the doors of Freemasonry were opened to me. Since then I have had many pleasant times of fraternal fellowship and even opportunities for service in the work of many branches of Freemasonry.
Our Order, for now I can say, "our order," teaches, "the brotherhood of man under the fatherhood of God" and this is great! The world needs so desperately to discover the value of this great truth in human relationships and world affairs. It is also a truth that will motivate men and women to continue to explore avenues of service and areas of common concerns in order to restore a measure of sanity to the madness of our day and to enrich the quality of life for all peoples everywhere. Now I join hands and heart with you in all your endeavors of philanthropy and say we must not slacken our efforts "to do good to all," especially those with needs that will not be met if we fail in our common task of service to humanity.
On stage, screen, platform, and in private life I have always sought to bring a smile to the face of others and put a little joy in their lives. I am grateful now for the larger opportunity which is mine to adopt the tenets of Freemasonry as my own and hopefully be able to have a small part in spreading Masonry's message of love and caring to a larger audience, for wherever I go, I will be proud to tell others of my work and concern in behalf of all that you are doing, unselfishly, for others.
Someone once asked me why did I want to be a Mason and my reply was: "Because Masons care for those who cannot care for themselves." The Shriners have always been a favorite of mine because of their work for crippled and burned children. Also I am excited about efforts proposed at the recent Conference of Grand Masters in regard to drug abuse among young people.
It is great to be a Freemason! I am proud of what we are doing. I shall assist in every way I can our work of mercy, and it doesn't hurt to be a Brother with a "big mouth and lots of television cameras" to help get the message across. Masons are people of goodwill who want to "keep our kids alive" and we are doing this throughout the world.
Our purpose is noble and humanitarian. Our labors will be crowned with success, for as Freemasons we will bring to our mission the best we have, regardless of what it demands from us in the way of sacrifice and service. We will make sure that in the tomorrows, life will be better for those who suffer today.
I was a Freemason in my heart long before I was accepted as a member in this great Fraternity. I was an out-sider but now I am one of you, and the remaining years of my life will be spent in seeking in some small way to say to all: "Thank you for making me a Freemason." I want always to make you laugh but I trust that I will also make you care and that now, together, we will put melody in the heart of the world that will sing of a better life for all people. The task challenges us to larger efforts and higher goals that will demand from all of us the best we have to make a better life for others. My promise to Freemasons everywhere is that I will give the task my best!
Brother Danny Thomas was a world-famous entertainer
and the founder of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital,
the world's only institution devoted solely to the study and treatment of catastrophic childhood illnesses.

Many Freemasons nationwide have been of great service to the Boy Scouts of America by supporting the development of Scouting units, serving as volunteers, and assisting their Masonic lodges in forming and sponsoring Scout units. The relationship between individual Masons and Scouting, which has existed since the founding of Scouting in America, has resulted in immeasurable benefits for both Freemasonry and Scouting.
Brother Daniel Beard
Freemasonry's relationship with the Boy Scouts started with a Freemason named Daniel Carter Beard. Bro. Beard was made a Mason in Mariner's Lodge No. 67, New York City, NY, and later affiliated with Cornucopia Lodge 563, Flushing, NY. In the late 1800's he founded a male youth program called the "Society of the Sons of Daniel Boone." By 1905, the program had become "The Boy Pioneers." The man who would create the first "Boy Scouts," and be known as its founder, was Lord Robert Baden-Powell of Great Britain. Lord Baden-Powell, who was not a Mason, read of Beard's program and, based on his own military experience, developed what is known as the "Boy Scouts." In 1910, the Boy Scout program came to America when Bro. Beard merged his organization into the "Boy Scouts of America" and became its first National Commissioner.
Bro. Beard, known affectionately as "Uncle Dan" by millions of Boy Scouts, worked tirelessly to create the Scouting Program that we know today. He developed the elements of the Scout badge and the Scout uniform, and wrote and illustrated various early publications of the Boy Scouts of America. Bro. Beard exemplified the Masonic ideals throughout the Scouting program.

The prosperity of Masonry...
The prosperity of Masonry as a means of strengthening our religion,
and propagating truth brotherly love, is one of the dearest wishes of my heart,
which, I trust, will be gratified by the help of the Grand Architect of the universe

Freemasonry is an institution...
Freemasonry is an institution based on that never-failing charity which upholds
universal love, calms the troubled sea of our evil passions, and leaves a smooth surface,
in which all men, who are sincere and conscientious worshipers of God,
and unexceptionable in moral deportment, may unite, bless each other,
and rejoice in practically realizing the sublime sentiment that God hath made mankind
one mighty brotherhood, himself their master, and the world his lodge

The words of Freemasonry have a precious meaning...
We meet upon the level and we part upon the square
These words have precious meaning and are practiced everywhere
Come let us contemplate them, they are worthy of a thought
From the ancient times of Masonry these symbols have been taught
We meet upon the level, every country, sect and creed
The rich man from his mansion, the poor man from the field
For wealth is not considered within our outer door
And we all meet on the level upon the chequered floor

The Farewell to the Brethren of St. James' Lodge, Tarbolton:
The Farewell to the Brethren of St. James' Lodge, Tarbolton:
Adieu! a heart-warm fond adieu;
Dear brothers of the mystic tie!
Ye favoured, enlighten'd few,
Companions of my social joy;
Tho' I to foreign lands must hie,
Pursuing Fortune's slidd'ry ba';
With melting heart, and brimful eye,
I'll mind you still, tho' far awa.
Oft have I met your social band,
And spent the cheerful, festive night;
Oft, honour'd with supreme command,
Presided o'er the sons of light:
And by that hieroglyphic bright,
Which none but Craftsmen ever saw
Strong Mem'ry on my heart shall write
Those happy scenes, when far awa.
May Freedom, Harmony, and Love,
Unite you in the grand Design,
Beneath th' Omniscient Eye above,
The glorious Architect Divine,
That you may keep th' unerring line,
Still rising by the plummet's law,
Till Order bright completely shine,
Shall be my pray'r when far awa.
And you, farewell! whose merits claim
Justly that highest badge to wear:
Heav'n bless your honour'd noble name,
To Masonry and Scotia dear!
A last request permit me here, -
When yearly ye assemble a',
One round, I ask it with a tear,
To him, the Bard that's far awa.

Freemasonry could be...
Freemasonry could be, and could have been in the past, the only institution
in the world that at all times in every way promotes tolerance and meeting
on the level. We could be the leaders in seeking racial harmony, religious
ecumenism, cooperation among men and women, civility between people
who believe in different political philosophies, and friendliness among those
who choose to live their lives differently from others. We could be better than
the United Nations, Amnesty International, and interfaith organizations, all
together, because we could be the prime organization supporting tolerance for all,
everywhere, in all circumstances. This would be a unique role for Freemasonry

Freemasonry and the tenets...
Freemasonry has tenets peculiar to itself. They serve as testimonials of character and qualifications, which are only conferred after due course of instruction and examination. These are of no small value; they speak a universal language, and act as a passport to the attentions and support of the initiated in all parts of the world. They cannot be lost as long as memory retains its power. Let the possessor of them be expatriated, shipwrecked or imprisoned, let him be stripped of everything he has got in the world, still those credentials remain, and are available for use as circumstances require. The good effects they have produced are established by the most incontestable facts of history. They have stayed the uplifted hand of the destroyer; they have softened the asperities of the tyrant; they have mitigated the horrors of captivity; they have subdued the rancor of malevolence; and broken down the barriers of political animosity and sectarian alienation. On the field of battle, in the solitudes of the uncultivated forest, or in the busy haunts of the crowded city, they have made men of the most hostile feelings, the most distant regions, and diversified conditions, rush to the aid of each other, and feel a special joy and satisfaction that they have been able to afford relief to a Brother Mason.

Bro Wayne Stanley - Update 7/15/11
Bro Wayne Stanley has been moved again to Room #488 on the 4th floor at North Ms Medical Center in Tupelo, Ms for extensive rehabilitation following the stroke. The telephone number directly to his room is (662)377-3488. Bro Wayne is making a slow but remarkable recovery. He is able to communicate and is now showing signs of remarkable improvement in his right side some 6 weeks following the pair of strokes. According to staff, he has taken about 55 steps within the past few days, which are the first since he was rushed to the hospital. Please continue to keep him and his family in your prayers and feel free to stop by and visit with him. He asked about many of his brothers today, personally. If you can not make it to visit with him, at least give him a call. I asked him what he needed most today and his response was prayers and support. He wanted to say "Thank You" to all that has called or visited thus far and asked that the others do the same.

Bro Wayne Stanley - Update 7/12/11
Bro Wayne has been moved to room 495 on the 4th floor of North Ms Medical Center in Tupelo, Ms to undergo extensive physical therapy following his strokes. Wayne is alert and eager to have visitors, more especially brother Masons. Please make an effort to stop by and offer words of encouragement, prayer, and the comfort of brotherly love. This has been a physically challenging trial for him and an emotional one as well. It is during difficult times such as these, when a worthy brother truly recognizes the possitive impact that his fellow brothers has on his life and the lives if his family. As we all continue to follow the true principals of Freemasonry, and strive to positively impact the sacred craft, let us also be reminded of the obligation we have to one another and virtues that cement us. Best wishes to Bro Stanley and his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

The wages of a Mason
Masonic labor is purely a labor of love. He who seeks to draw
Masonic wages in gold and silver will be disappointed. The wages
of a Mason are earned and paid in their dealings with one another;
sympathy that begets sympathy, kindness begets kindness, helpfulness
begets helpfulness, and these are the wages of a Mason

"Stepping Stones"
"Stepping Stones"
("Thimblefuls of Friendliness")
Mary Brooks Picken
Isn't it strange that Princes and Kings
And clowns that caper in sawdust rings,
And just plain folks like you and me,
Are builders for Eternity?
To each is given a bag of tools,
A shapeless mass and a book of rules,
And each must make ere life is flown,
A stumbling block, or a stepping stone.

I am Freemasonry...
I am Freemasonry, by Ray V. Denslow (G.M. Missouri G.L.):
I was born in antiquity, in the ancient days when men first dreamed of God.
I have been tried through the ages, and found true.
The crossroads of the world bear the imprint of my feet,
and the cathedrals of all nations mark the skill of my hands.
I strive for beauty and for symmetry.
In my heart is wisdom and strength and courage for those who ask.
Upon my altars is the Book of Holy Writ,
and my prayers are to the One Omnipotent God,
my sons work and pray together, without rank or discord,
in the public mart and in the inner chamber.
By signs and symbols I teach the lessons of life and of death
and the relationship of man with God and of man with man.
My arms are widespread to receive those of lawful age and good report
who seek me of their own free will.
I accept them and teach them to use my tools in the building of men,
and thereafter, find direction in their own quest
for perfection so much desired and so difficult to attain.
I lift up the fallen and shelter the sick.
I hark to the orphans' cry, the widows tears,
the pain of the old and destitute.
I am not church, nor party, nor school,
yet my sons bear a full share of responsibility to God, to country,
to neighbor and themselves.
They are freemen, tenacious of their liberties and alert to lurking danger.
At the end I commit them as each one undertakes the journey
beyond the vale into the glory of everlasting life.
I ponder the sands within the glass and think how small is a single life
in the eternal universe. Always have I taught immortality,
and even as I raise men from darkness into light, I am a way of life.
I am Freemasonry.
The End... but actually, just the beginning.

Freemasonry & Today's World
The challenge before Freemasonry today is to see with clarity the potential of our Order, for history has demonstrated that when civilisations fail, it is almost always man who has failed, in his will, spirit, and morality.
Freemasonry offers to today’s world three abiding principles. These principles are the essence of Masonic philosophy and teaching.
MORALITY—Integrity of the individual—runs through all our philosophy. The man who does his duty, the man who respects his family and his friends, the man whose dealings are marked by uprightness of intent, the man who is just to his employees, honest with his employer, the man whose word is his bond—that is what Freemasonry teaches. Today’s world needs the moral teachings of Freemasonry.
BROTHERHOOD. Freemasonry is a declaration that mankind is indivisible and that we must learn to live together if we are going to live at all. We live in a global village. Nothing can happen in another that won’t have an effect on you and me. We belong together. The race that is on today, is not a race exclusively between totalitarianism and democracy; it is a race between brotherhood and destruction. The world must learn the secrets of life that will establish brotherhood if it would find its life. This can be Freemasonry’s major contribution to today’s world.
COMPASSION. The entire Masonic ritual stresses compassion. How today’s world needs compassion!!! To strengthen the ties of compassion for those in need is to strengthen the ties if international brotherhood. Historically, Freemasonry has survived the vicissitudes of time and circumstances irrespective of the size of its membership and its institutional characteristics. It has survived because of its focus on the individual.
What then can Freemasonry be in today’s world? It can be what it has always been, a lamp to light the way for the seeker of truth and a safe harbour for all who discover the true meaning of morality, brotherhood, and compassion.
As Freemasons we must remember that today is OUR time. Yesterday belongs to our predecessors, tomorrow belongs to our descendants who will fashion it by the rules and examples we give them today.
